Abstract	Abstract We present two new families of complex ${\cal PT}$ -symmetric extensions of the non- ${\cal PT}$ -symmetric Burgers equation using two different ${\cal PT}$ -symmetric extension principles. Many representative nonlinear wave equations are investigated. Some exact solutions and conservation laws are obtained which contain solitary wave solutions, compacton solutions, rational solutions and peakon solutions, etc. Moreover, we also present some higher-dimensional complex nonlinear ${\cal PT}$ -symmetric wave equations.
